Introduced in 2005, the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) is the cornerstone of the world's largest carbon market to date. It is the centerpiece of climate policy in the EU, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy and industrial plants, as well as from intra-European air traffic.
